Our 2010 Launch Day is on Saturday, April 17.
This is one of the best days to experience the true spirit of a co-operative sailing club.
All able members spend the day collaboratively readying the many various aspects of the club for the season.
One of the most visible and critical jobs is the assembly of the boats . The hulls are upturned and fitted with masts. Gradually the boats are fully rigged to ensure the sails and hardware are ready for the season. All 23 club boats are assembled as well as any private boats of attending members. There is a suitable job for every person. Some people work on the Hobie beasts; others focus on Lasers or Albacores.
Meanwhile, others are shining the clubhouse, sweeping the deck and clearing the grounds and beach of winter debris. Members are able to rejoin the club and sign up for duty day inside the clubhouse, while having a hot cup of coffee and a snack.
After the boats are ready, a very large crew installs the dock in to the water (well, if the Ottawa River is ready for it! This depends on the ice being out and the water level being suitable).
A day's hard work is celebrated on the deck with lunch and thirst quenching beverages with the air full of excitement for another great year of sailing!
